Understanding Abuse“Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime” - Herbert Ward
At least 32,000 children in the UK are known to be at risk of abuse right now. DfES (2005)
What is abuse?
Child abuse is when a child suffers harm or even death by physical cruelty, emotional cruelty, sexual abuse or neglect by an adult. Bullying and racism are forms of abuse.
Child abuse is a very sensitive subject, one that is difficult to face as parents, as teachers, as a community. But face it we must, the need to protect our children must be paramount. At CAP we passionately believe that all abuse is preventable if the will to do so is there.
