Welcome to CAP, the Child Assault Prevention Project.
Our aim is to reduce all children’s vulnerability to abuse.
CAP’s school based assault prevention programmes offer education, guidance and support by giving children positive messages on how they can protect themselves. We work with the whole school community - children, parents/carers and staff, to build on children’s strengths and empower them.
Our workshops provide children with the ability to recognize unsafe situations and the confidence to act on them, so that they can stay safe, strong and free.
In the last fifteen years CAP has worked with over 70% of schools in South Devon and 17 schools within South Somerset. We’ve reached over 73,000 children, young people, their parents/carers and schools staff giving them the skills and strategies to prevent abuse. We have also worked in 12 Special schools with our individually developed curriculum. The Reading team which was launched in 2008 has now worked in 12 primary schools.
CAP is a registered charity, working within the community and voluntary sector and in close partnership and liaison with other voluntary and statutory agencies.
In 2010 we were awarded 5 years of funding from the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities Grant. This funding is allowing us to develop our work in Devon, Reading and into Plymouth. As a result of this funding we have been able to appoint three new posts to develop expertise in the areas of domestic abuse, in the needs of children living with poverty and deprivation and in the safeguarding of children from BME communities in Reading.
We have successfully recruited two new facilitators. They have already joined our busy team, helping us to complete the work that we have secured in primary schools across the South West. As we are fully booked for this academic year, we are already taking bookings for next year so do get in touch if you want to reserve your school’s place in 2013/14!
We have secured a place in this years London Marathon. Jason Burns is running for us at the same time as raising funds for our important work. Please sponsor him at- my donate- devon cap!
